Dan Upton Construction, Inc. has been building thoughtful, sensitive, beautiful homes in Santa Barbara for more than 35 years. Dan Upton is a 3rd generation Santa Barbaran committed to giving back to his community in many ways.
In the mid seventies, along with other teachers and parents, he co-founded Open Alternative School, Santa Barbara public school now in its 35th year. While teaching at OAS, he built his own home, creating an interactive building experience for his students, which he successfully integrated into real life lessons. In the late seventies, he designed and built early passive solar homes, often working side-by-side with owners. In the early ninties, Dan was hired by “Homes for People,” a non-profit affordable housing provider, as their contractor. In that role, he built 44 affordable units in Santa Barbara incorporating “sweat-equity,” a process whereby home-buyers could contribute labor toward their future home and be invested in the joy and reward of their involvement. Dan’s skill in assembling a good team, minimizing impact, reusing materials and creative thinking have produced a strong and conscientious company.
Dan Upton Construction has had the opportunity to build some of Santa Barbara’s most unique, creative and beautiful landmark residential buildings. For nearly 15 years, DUC has been the builder-of-choice for local architect Jeff Shelton’s amazing creations. These unique homes and multi-family projects have brought a fresh interpretation of tradition and a new level of grace to Santa Barbara.
In recent years, we have been featured in the Los Angeles times, Sunset Magazine, HGTV and received several awards from Santa Barbara Beautiful.
